Finding a Brick of Gold in an Abandoned Coal Mine
The city of Taunton, MA, where I live, is a dusty old mill town. Nearly all of the mills and factories have closed. Some have been demolished, some are vacant eyesores and some are now superfund hazardous waste sites. The best part of town – is another town! If you live here long enough, you’ll discover and even savor its charms, but for the most part this small city (pop. about 55,000 and declining) is run down, run out, and has little to offer.
One major exception to this gloom, a bright spot in this picture, the brick of gold in this dusty old coal mine, is a small, unassuming building that houses a convenience and liquor store called Andy’s Market, located on Bay Road at the northern outskirts of the city.
